  • Bob moved to Wilmington in 1990 for its proximity to the ocean and his family, and for its appeal as a smaller city. He chose to enter the financial services industry, originally as a representative with AXA/Equitable. In 2004, he joined Commonwealth Financial Network® as an independent financial advisor.

Bob works primarily with owners of small businesses and those who are retired (or soon to be) in Wilmington, North Carolina. His practice is based on understanding the core values and beliefs of each client so that he can assist them in pursuing their financial goals and dreams. Bob believes, “It's all about what the client wants to accomplish and helping them to get there.”

When selecting a competent and trusted financial professional, the relationship has to be a good fit. Bob works best with those people looking for guidance—those searching for a comprehensive and individually tailored financial plan to help them reach their long-term financial goals. As an Investment Adviser Representative, his job is to understand your specific situation, develop the right plan (ensuring it is suitable for what you're trying to achieve), implement it, make changes as needed, and keep you abreast of your progress. As an independent financial professional, Bob uses an "open architecture" platform, and can access the whole universe of financial products without the proprietary restrictions or biases that may exist in a larger firm.

Bob's compensation is a combination of fees and commissions, based on what is best for the client and product availability (as some products are only available on a commission basis). If given a choice, Bob prefers to charge a fee, which gives him the greatest planning flexibility and directly aligns his financial interests with yours.

Bob and Harriett have been married since 1989. They have two children, Robert and Katharyn, who keep them busy with school, church, and sports activities. Bob is active in the Wilmington Kiwanis Club and the Boy Scouts of America. He is most notably a lover of classical music, public radio, and has been a sponsor of “All Things Considered” on WHQR since 1991. Bob also served an eight-year term on the Cape Fear Chapter of the North Carolina Symphony board. When not working, he loves to fish and travel with his family to interesting destinations.

Bob has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Accredited Investment Fiduciary™, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Certified Life Underwriter (CLU) certifications. He also has an MBA in Marketing/Finance from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business in New York and a BA in Philosophy from Haverford College. Prior to his move to Wilmington, Bob worked in marketing management for such companies as Heinz, RJR Nabisco, and Grey Advertising.
